THE BLACK GREEK SUCCESS PROGRAM

What is RIGHT with Black Greek Letter Organizations besides a rich lineage of notable figures and stepping?  With so many needed cautionary presentations and workshops designed to prevent more damage to the collective image of African-American fraternities and sororities, I have identified a need to point to the specific career benefits of being a member of a "Divine Nine" organization.  The Black Greek Success Program takes a look at how college Greeks can take their unique skills and turn them into marketable career skills

This highly engaging presentation includes:

  • The "3 Bs of Black Greek Success"
  • BEing a family featuring the "Gumbo Theory"
  • BEing an individual
  • BEing prepared for career challenges featuring the "Divine Nine Characteristics of Career Success"
BGSP can be done as a speaking presentation, a keynote speech, or as a full-fledged interactive workshop.  The Black Greek Success Program also focuses on institutional success by creating a more engaged student leadership culture.
  • Students become more dedicated to academic success.
  • BGSP encourages increased use of campus resources.
  • Student leaders gain an enhanced understanding of leadership skills among their unique demographics

What the Black Greek Success Program is NOT:

  • An anti-hazing workshop
  • An opportunity to tell Greeks what's WRONG with them
  • A gripe and moan session for chapters who have "beef" with one another

Audience: Collegiate members of African-American fraternities and sororities

webassets/EFcomSpeak.jpgTMI:  TURNING BAD SOCIAL MEDIA HABITS INTO WISE CAREER CHOICES

High school and college students make goofy decisions.  As the minds of these young people develop during and after puberty, they often feel the need to express themselves by any means necessary.  Social media gives anyone with an internet connection the opportunity to voice his or her opinions about myriad of topics in a deceptively intimate environment.  Is it the fault of outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc.?  Hardly.  The fact is people are people and they choose to do whatever they want to do.

TMI turns students' collective attention to the effect that technology and the judgmental nature of people have on other's lives, thus creating conflict resolution pitfalls with serious consequences.  The presentation provides students with tools to recognize how expressing negative thoughts in social media can compromise their educational and career opportunities.  At the same time, TMI turns students' attention to how they can use social media to position themselves for future success.

This presentation is not for the faint of heart, however.  In a daring move, I do my homework on the expected audience and show them, the hard way, how their thoughts look when they are shared with the world.
